24-26 Dec 2010: Nozawa 野沢 Snowboard Trip - White Christmas

Venue: Nozawa 野沢, Nagano http://www.nozawaski.com/winter/en/

The first white Christmas for me ever! Shame shame it's a late but none the less memorable one! To a tropical Asian who studied in Australia and grown up in Hong Kong, snow is really a rare resource. A natural blessing it is indeed! Also, the first time I spent Christmas eve with 50 others whom I haven't known pretty well enough to do crazy bus hahaha. However, the trip started off with fun filled stops in between, we all hopped down the coach to get hot tea/coffee, kebab, bread, even bento (Japanese rice takeout boxes).

Finally after 3 hours of shakes we arrive Nagano Nozawa, it's 00:05 on Christmas Day...

Now, I'll let the pictures tell the story to all ~ First Day ~

Second day, more snow, more falls, more skilled (really??!) ~

P.S.: There aren't many pictures with me ON THE SNOWBOARD. However, I have really spent 1.5 days net on it. Jump and Fall and Get up and Down the Slopes I came! The "bump" protector really saved my life (and butt) and believe me, it's the best and most essential gear I would recommend to a new ski-er or snowboarder. :)  Honestly I did all the way down green zone with much help from the bump protector! I have never felt so close with the earth/snow and used so much of my bump!!!  I am very proud of myself !

After thoughts: During the snowboarding times, once I was by myself in the green zone, I was tired, toes are aching and I can't get up back on the snowboard right away. Feeling so hopeless and helpless, but then, suddenly I thought, "Hang on, the snow is so white and ground so soft afterall, why hurry to get up!?" So instead of struggling to get up, I lay down all the way with my back on the snow, feeling so much like a endless sized mattress!  I really couldn't appreciate the nature any more than this moment. Then after a while I could get back up with great ease again.

Supersized Mattress!

23 Dec 2010: Snow monkeys & Matsumoto castle sightseeing

Today, I joined a local tour to see one of the most interesting/special creatures in Japan - Onsen Snow Monkeys. Indeed, these are must-see for anyone who stay in Tokyo/Japan long enough. Was a full day, I started from 6ish am and finished at 8ish in Shinjuku. Well, not just seeing monkeys, but also visited the authentic Matsumoto Castle. So here you go...

And then, the Matsumoto Castle, really in good condition, it's amazing how the Shoguns/Soldiers navigated amongst the narrow wooden corridors and steep steps on their full metallic armor!!! Salute!
